The Suzuki Jimny is a proven workhorse that has been in production for more than 40 years. It brings Suzuki's proven experience in small petrol engines to a tough and dependable drivetrain that lends itself well to customisation. It's a proven truck - we just made it better!

Here are just a few of the reasons that we use the Suzuki Jimny as the base for our Mate models, and how we make them the ultimate farm work truck.


Reliability

We leave the running gear, engine and pretty much everything else just the way Suzuki built them. If it works and works well, then there is no point modifying it; after all, Suzuki spent decades developing this platform, and it also means that when it's service time, parts are easy to source and available off the shelf. You know as much as we do that out on the farm reliability is the key.

Suzuki made a great truck - we just made it better, with modifications to suit New Zealand conditions and all the things Kiwi farmers want in a truck.


comfort

Farmers asked for more interior room and better comfort - we gave it to them. We spent thousands of dollars and six months in development to come up with something that wasn't just weatherproof but warm and with storage space. Two shelves behind the seats, so you can stash whatever you want: your lunch, the rifle, even old Faithfull - no not the misses, I'm talking about the dog. 

The seats go all the way back and can even be extended if required, for that extra leg room, or you can tilt the seat back and have a bit of shut eye in comfort. And they have full heating and radio/audio systems, so why freeze in boredom waiting for the cows to come home on a quad when you can be staving off the rain and listening to the weather in a Mate?


TOUGH

Everything about a Mate truck is built tough. The deck was designed not to fall apart, even years down the track. For example, we use eight 10mm bolts just to hold down the deck, and yes that is overkill, but that’s the way we build them.

The deck sits on 6 x 60mm heavy duty angle and is braced; the tow bar is also designed to be strong, made from 50x 75 x 5mm heavy duty angle iron, bolted by 6 x 12mm bolts, braced and using 50mm heavy duty pipe work as well.

The bull bar is built to be as light as possible to keep the weight off the front axle and steering, but to hug the body work, unlike some others that look like a gate found behind the back shed has been fitted to the front. In fact, we have put a lot of thought into the bull bar to maintain a smart look but to be practical as well, with extra light mounts built in, and side bars that not just protect the front guards but also protect the door sills so the truck just rides around obstacles, protecting the rear guards.

We try and think outside the square and have designed something that works, is practical, and looks like it should be there, not just a bit of pipe welded on!

EXTRAS

We can design, build and supply more extras for these trucks than the misses has in her handbag. Everything we have been asked for, we have found a way of supplying, from tow bars to bull bars, trays, tyres and colour schemes.

Fuel cap filler

While designing the rear cab we thought outside the square again and kept the fuel filler and cap in the original place but make the mould fit around the cap, making refuelling the easiest thing, period.

Foot well

Climbing on the back of these trucks also had to be easy, so we designed an inner foot boot step integrated into the mould and deck design.

Tow bar

A brand new and extremely strong bolt-on tow bar lets us build the tow ball to any height required; you can even configure the old tongue drop bolt/pin down the centre for those trailers and attachments that don’t have a trailer coupling. And we can also supply a custom built - and load-on, load-off - cage that fits like a glove.

SAFETY

No helmets required, and when its cold or raining you're fully covered, warm and dry, so you'll spend less days off sick and work more efficiently. 

We have also constructed the body modifications from heavy duty 40 x 40mm steel, box framing, welded and integrated for a stronger build than any other Jimny and with larger interior cab space that ever before.

TYRES

Wide floatation tyres were the main feature that our customers asked for and so we spent nearly a year searching the globe for suitable tyres with the correct specs for NZ farmers. After months of unanswered emails and futile phone calls we finally found the source we were looking for; with the correct tyre specs we need and the quality our customers demand we are the exclusive importer of these tyres - but don't worry we have more of them in stock than a sheep has daggs.
